Background and problem

We would like to prevent piping wear and tear when transporting powder materials for PVC products

We received an inquiry asking "Is it possible to conduct pneumatic conveyance of powder materials to a manufacturing machine in a PVC products line?" This powder material is very abrasive. When the customer installed a pneumatic conveyance system, the bent section of the stainless steel piping saw a puncture occur in three weeks. They had therefore been making use of mechanical conveyance—e.g., using chain conveyors. However, they wanted to reinvestigate the use of pneumatic conveyance to convey powder materials across several buildings in the future.

Suggestions from TSUKASA

Suppressing wear and tear using a Pulse Feeder with a low conveyance speed

We suggested adopting a Pulse Feeder with a low powder conveyance speed to suppress wear and tear on the piping. The Pulse Feeder is a batch-type, high-density conveyor. Because the conveyor has a slow travel speed, when powders to be conveyed are pushed into the piping by applying high air pressure, the amount of wear and tear that occurs on piping areas with bends can be suppressed.

Why TSUKASA was chosen

Detailed descriptions of functions and costs, etc.

We provided a careful explanation regarding the issues of batch type conveyance, not just the strengths. For example, there is less conveyance capacity than that of continuous type conveyance, and there are costs associated with use of high-pressure air. A series of reviews between the customer and staff of TSUKASA took place, and the customer decided to adopt our product after being satisfied in terms of the function and cost and determined the adoption of our product was worth it.

Results of introduction

Eliminating piping wear and tear during conveyance

By adopting Pulse Feeder with a low powder conveyance speed, wear and tear on piping areas with bends was suppressed, and it successfully resulted in a longer service life of the piping.

Ease of maintenance

In conventional mechanical conveyance, there was the risk of contamination of foreign substances and powder residue found inside machines due to the deterioration of consumable parts. Accordingly, a lot of time and effort was required for maintenance and management of the parts. Pneumatic conveyance with fewer mechanical drives can greatly reduce the aforementioned time and effort required.

Smooth conveyance between buildings

For mechanical conveyance, “transits” are required for the equipment, which are installed at each turn (horizontal to vertical, etc.).
Pneumatic conveyance can be basically achieved by connecting two pieces of equipment (source and destination) with piping. It simplifies the layout and facilitates smoother conveyance between buildings.
